Happy New Year!
We want to thank so many people for making 2013 one of the best years ever. We became the owners and innkeepers of the Journey Inn Bed & Breakfast this year - fulfilling a lifetime dream! It was a long and challenging time - leaving careers, a home we loved, great friends, and a life we were accustomed to - but gaining so much in the process. We were ready for something new - and we took the leap. What we found was more time with family, a community that has embraced us completely, new friends, a wonderful new home, and the best job for anyone who loves people, serving the public, preparing great food, and caring for a home. Thank you 2013 - we ask 2014 to be just as kind to us - and to all of you. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

One year ago....we found our future
One year ago today we walked into the Journey Inn Bed & Breakfast and knew that this was the place. We had just started our search for our B&B - and believe it or not, the Journey Inn was the first place we saw. I remember saying that this was the place - and why, oh, why did it have to be the first place we saw. We spent the next several months traveling around visiting other places, searching online, talking to consultants and brokers - and nothing else was as perfect for us as the Journey Inn. As New Yorkers, it was much harder for us to leave the state we knew and loved than we thought. And we wanted to make sure that our first passion - food - was high on the list of what the area had to offer. Well we found great restaurants and so much more. We have been coming to the Hudson Valley for 30 years and living up here (on weekends) for 15 years - but even we didn't know how much the area had to offer. Great food, culture, history, architecture, outdoor activity, antiquing, horseback riding, swimming, hiking, and so much more. We are so happy that our guests never run out of things to do - and very often plan their trips to come back when they realize they didn't give themselves enough time. We still have a huge list of things we have not been able to experience yet - your vacations are our staycations - and we are just loving it!

Happy Independence Day
A happy Independence Day to everyone. This is our favorite holiday - not only is it summer, but it is a time for family and friends to gather for great food. The bounty of summer fruits and vegetables are among us and at their peak of flavor. And nothing is better than grilled meat, fish, vegetables - and chilled fruit. Don't forget the ice cream! But what I most love about this holiday is what we are celebrating - this great experiment that is America. Let us not forget how special this country is and how our founding fathers gave us and the world, democracy. Just so that we never forget, here is a link to that amazing document - our Declaration of Independence. We never get tired of reading it. http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/declaration_transcript.html

Friendships
I am a very lucky person. I have great friends. My friends from college (Connie, Maria, Marj, Steph, Julie) find time to see each other as often as we can. With careers, kids, and life's other challenges - we still find time to get away and see each other. It is one of the best gifts I give myself. So it is very exciting for me to host groups of friends getting together to just be together. I have been lucky to host many groups of friends finding that precious time to be together for long walks, great dinners, and wonderful conversation. I love getting these reservations - because I know how special these moments are for all involved. We all need to find the time and keep those friendships alive - they mean so much.

Guests bringing joy
It has been 3 weeks since we reopened the Inn - and it is clear to me that what makes the Journey Inn so special are the people that choose to stay here. We are so very lucky to have had the most amazing guests these past three weeks. I wish I could spend more time at the breakfast table as I hear the laughter and the animated discussions taking place. I am so happy that everyone enjoys themselves so much. Yesterday we had a competitive card game going while cheers erupted during the Players Tournament. Last weekend, wine and Kentucky Derby was the pre-dinner event. It was so wonderful to see guests exchanging contact information - as friendships were formed. It makes us so very happy to have happy guests. Thanks to you all.

Our first weekend
Well our first weekend is behind us - and I just want to say, it
was a blast! Let me tell you all about it, but first, an introduction. We are
the new Innkeepers, Valerie and Eric. And joining us are my parents, Victor and
Victoria. We are the new Journey Inn - just as wonderful as the old Journey Inn
of course!
After two weeks of
frantic unpacking, decorating, landscaping, cooking - we opened to a full
house. We had folks from New York, New Zealand, Pennsylvania, Florida, and
Ohio. Some were just getting away for a weekend, others on a tour of the east
coast, some folks taking a course at the Culinary Institute of America, and two
sisters just wanting to spend some time together. And a good friend who wanted
to share our first weekend - thanks Liz and Charlie!
What a great
weekend it was. The weather was beautiful; the conversation was lively and fun.
I do believe a great time was had by all. Our first breakfast was herbed
scrambled eggs with roasted asparagus, blueberry muffins, local breakfast
sausages, and strawberries with crème fraîche and brown sugar.
I will never forget that first meal.
On Saturday, a
nice glass of champagne was shared to celebrate the reopening and our new life
as innkeepers.
Thanks to all the
wonderful guests who helped make it such a memorable weekend.

Well today is the day, April 11,2013 that the keys have been passed from us, the old and original owners to the new owner of Journey Inn Bed & Breakfast. And what a day is has been!
This morning, as we did our final walk through,so many memories came flooding back. It has been a fabulous and glorious adventure these past 16 years and now it is time for new eyes and fresh ideas to make their own impact and we know she will!
If she has half as much fun, laughter, and joy mixed in with those...'oh my...now what do we do" moments, she will have a blast.
We have met the most amazing people during our stewardship and learned so much from our guests. We have always said that we have be so fortunate to have the best guests and that is what makes this business so special.
We wish her and all future guests a warm and comfortable stay @ Journey Inn Bed & Breakfast and may they return again to the Hudson Valley.
